Why the Clancy trial

Lindsay Clancy's nearly six-week trial in Plymouth, Massachusetts, put postpartum psychosis and maternal mental health in front of the country. On September 4, 2026, the judge declared a mistrial after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict.

The defense argued she was in a psychotic break and that the mental health system failed her after she repeatedly sought help. Prosecutors argued she was criminally responsible. Outside the courthouse, hundreds of supporters — many in pink — said the medical system, not spectacle, should be the story.
